To our loyal Nantucket family,
It has been nearly a year since the walls of our Sparks Avenue home came down. Seeing the building demolished was a bittersweet moment for all of us, marking the end of a chapter that spanned decades of early-morning coffee, shared stories, and, of course, countless donuts.
Since then, the site has stood quiet as the "new downtown" project moves through its phases. While the landscape of Sparks Avenue has changed, our commitment to The Downyflake and this community has not wavered.
We want you to know: We are anxious to get back to work. The Downyflake is more than just a menu; it is the incredible staff we’ve worked beside for years and the daily interactions with you—our regulars—that we miss most. As the new year approaches, we are actively weighing our options to bring The Downyflake back to life in a new form.
Our goal is to find a way to get the Downyflake up and running soon. While the full redevelopment of the old site is a long-term project, we are exploring every avenue to return to the island’s dining scene much sooner than that. Whether it is a new physical location or a creative alternative, we are determined to ensure that the 90-year tradition of The Downyflake continues.
We kept the iconic donut sign, and we intend to hang it up again soon.
Thank you for your ongoing support, for checking in on us, and for keeping the spirit of the 'Flake alive. We hope to serve you again in 2026.
With gratitude and hope for the New Year,
- Pate Kennedy and Ron Oldham
